The state government will provide de-worming medicines free of cost to children up to five years in six tribal-dominated districts, health minister Prasanna Acharya said here on Monday. The minister said the medicine will be given to children of Rayagada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Koraput, Nuapada and Gajapati during the Vitamin A distribution drive in May and November. The de-worming exercise will be part of the government's effort to reduce infant mortality rate (IMR), which is one of the highest in the country. Orissa's 65 deaths per 1,000 live births is much higher compared to the national average of 53.
